DDS (Document Delivery Service)

DDS (Domestic)

  • DDS (Document Delivery Service) is a service that allows the users to receive a copy of a material that is not currently owned by the Korea Univ. Library by requesting domestic/foreign partner institutions.
  • Applications can be made mainly through the KERIS, RISS, KISTI

 

Users

  • Faculty Members, Graduate Students & Undergraduates who are currently attending to the school

 

Fee

  • The library will support a part of the cost. See [Fees] for further information

Subject Materials

Material Type Scope
Monographs Up to 50% of the entire material. A full copy of the entire material is unavailable.
Serial Publications Applications can be made in units of a paper (article)
Theses/Dissertations National Assembly Library (http://www.nanet.go.kr), Homepage of the School Library where you have received a degree.
Or, check whether the original text can be viewed in the KERIS dCollection page (http://dcollection.korea.ac.kr) etc. and apply for DDS.
* Electronic Materials of the National Assembly Library & National Library can be accessed (view/print) on designated PCs within the library [How to Use]

*You can check the current progress of your application at [My Space > Utilization Status > ILL, DDS Request/List]
*If you have failed to find the results that you were looking for, click on the ‘Direct Input’ button at the bottom and make a request

RISS DDS Service

A service operated by the KERIS. It allows the user to search for collection information of university libraries across the nation and gain access to original texts of articles and dissertations that are listed in academic journals

 

How to Use
① Sign up as <User of Affiliated Organization> at the RISS Homepage (RISS, http://www.riss.kr)
② Search for the material at the RISS website and apply for DDS
③ Pay the fee and receive the material after receiving the ‘Material Arrival Notification’ via e-mail or SMS

Precautions when Applying for Domestic DDS

Precautions
① You can only apply for materials that are not available for online browsing or not owned by the Korea Univ. Library.
② If it is unable to check the Material Provider (Domestic) through RISS Search, please make an application at the [DDS] menu in the Korea Univ. Library Website.
③ Upon receiving the arrival notification, visit the library in person and pay the fee to receive the material sent from another institution. (See the [Fees] page for more information about our Cost Support Policy)
④ If a user fails to receive the material after applying for a DDS, they will receive an additional penalty that could seriously limit their access to the library and library services. Therefore, don’t forget to receive the material after requesting for a DDS.

DDS (Foreign)

  • In the case of academic materials that are not owned by domestic institutions, the user can request foreign partner institutions to provide a copy of the said material through the DDS (Foreign).

Subject Materials

Material Type Scope
Monographs Requests can be made by chapter or up to 30 pages. A full copy of the entire material cannot be requested. (Up to 50% of the entire material.)
Serial Publications Applications can be made in units of a paper (article)
Theses/Dissertations Check whether the original text is available on the library website [Recommended Academic Information – ProQuest] and apply for DDS.

OCLC DDS

By exploring the Worldcat DB Search, you can request a DDS of various academic materials owned by the member libraries of OCLC (Online Computer Library Center/ 10,000+ libraries)

  • How to Use
① Search for the desired material at Worldcat.org Then, make requests for a DDS at the [DDS] menu of Korea Univ. Library Homepage.
※ In the case of OCLC materials, users cannot apply for a DDS directly. Users can only use the service with assistance from the librarian.
② After receiving an arrival notification via e-mail or SMS, pick up the material after making the payment at your library.

 

National Diet Library (Japan) DDS

    The National Diet Library of Japan provides DDS of materials in possession.

  • Precuations
① Search the material at the NDL Homepage (https://ndlopac.ndl.go.jp)Then, request for a DDS at the [DDS] menu of Korea Univ. Library Homepage
※ In the case of NDL materials, the user cannot directly apply for a DDS. Instead, they could use the service by receiving assistance from the librarian
② Pay the fee and receive the material after receiving the ‘Material Arrival Notification’ via e-mail or SMS

 

Japanese University Library DDS (NII)

    Operated based on the mutual cooperation system of KERIS and NII (National Institute of Informatics), the users can search and request a DDS of materials owned by the University Libraries of Japan.

  • How to Use
① Sign up as a at the RISS Homepage(RISS, www.riss.kr)
② RISS Homepage > Request for Japanese/Chinese/European Material > Search Material (Japanese University) > DDS Request
③ Pay the fee and receive the material after receiving the ‘Material Arrival Notification’ via e-mail or SMS

 

Chinese University Library DDS (CALIS)

    Operated based on the mutual cooperation system with KERIS, the users can search and request a DDS of materials owned by 600+ University Libraries in China

  • How to Use
① Sign up as a at the RISS Homepage(RISS, www.riss.kr)
② RISS Homepage > Request for Japanese/Chinese/European Material > Search Material (Chinese University) > DDS Request
③ Pay the fee and receive the material after receiving the ‘Material Arrival Notification’ via e-mail or SMS

 

EDDS Overseas Paper Purchasing Agency Service

    A service provided by KERIS. Allows users to request DDS of materials that are not owned by domestic institutions.

  • How to Use
① Check the Availability Status (Domestic) of the material at the RISS Homepage(RISS, www.riss.kr) and request a DDS of the material at the [DDS] menu of Korea Univ. Library Homepage.
※ You can directly apply for a DDS as a ‘Normal User (pre-paid)’ through RISS. In this case, however, you will not be able to receive any support from the school.
② Pay the fee and receive the material after receiving the ‘Material Arrival Notification’ via e-mail or SMS

 

Precautions when Applying for Foreign DDS

Precautions
① You can only apply for materials that are not owned by domestic institutions (or materials that the original text is not viewable through online)
② If it is unable to check the Material Provider (Domestic) through RISS / NDSL Search, please make an application at the [DDS] menu in the Korea Univ. Library Website.
③ Foreign DDS normally takes about 1~3 weeks.
④ If you wish to see the detailed progress status of your application, go to [My Space > Utilization Status > ILL, DDS Request/List] and check the ‘Remark’ column.

Cost-Support Policy

① Full-time/Part-time Faculty Members : Full Support on Domestic/Foreign Interlibrary Loan/DDS Services (120 cases/user per year)
② Graduate School Students
*Domestic DDS Services : Full Cost Support of Copying Journal Articles (Papers) [User must pay for the expenses when requesting DDS of theses/dissertations & monographs]
*Foreign DDS Services : 15 cases/user per semester [Only count total number of cases, regardless of the type of material]
※ The classification of Domestic/Foreign will be made according to whether the Material Provider is Domestic/Foreign. Even if the requested material is from a foreign journal, it will be regarded as a ‘Domestic Service’ if the Material Provider is located in Korea.
※ Undergraduate students can apply for the DDS service, but they will not receive any cost support.
