타인의 창작물을 포함하는 사용자 생성 콘텐츠(UGC)들이 온라인 상에 증가하고 있다. 하지만 이러한 사용자 생성 콘텐츠가 이들이 포함하고 있는 원작 콘텐츠의 매출에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지, 원작 콘텐츠의 저작권자들은 이러한 사용자 생성 콘텐츠에 어떻게 대처해야 하는 지는 아직 명확하지 않다. 본 연구는 영화 시장에서 사용자 생성 콘텐츠의 역할에 대해 알아보기 위해 스포일러를 포함한 사용자 생성 콘텐츠를 연구한다. 유튜브에 존재하는 영상들 중 영화에 대한 스포일러를 포함하는 영상들을 활용하여 분석한 결과, 스포일러 영상은 영화의 박스오피스 수익 패턴을 변화시키고 전체 수익을 18.87% 증가시킨다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구는 저작권 침해, 사용자 생성 콘텐츠와 관련된 문헌에 기여하고, 저작권자에게 정책적인 시사점을 제공한다. 

Although lots of user-generated content (UGC) containing other people's creations are being published online, it is still not clear whether these contents are cannibalizing or increasing sales of original content and whether copyright holders should block them. Therefore, we study user-generated videos including spoilers of movies to investigate their role in the movie industry. We analyze this question using spoiler videos about movies on YouTube. We found that spoiler videos alter the decrease pattern of the box office revenue of movies and increase the total box office revenue by 18.87%. Our work contributes to the literature on copyright infringement and UGC and provides copyright owners with policy implications.
