Abstract

문헌은 인간의 직관이 불확실한 비즈니스 환경에서 합리적인 결정을 내리는 데 도움이 된다는 점을 강조했다. 본 연구에서는 기업의 운영성과에 유의한 영향을 미칠 수 있는 인적 요인을 고려한다. 본 연구 의도는 직원들을 성과 자체로써 이분법적으로 분류하고 재고 보유 기간에 미치는 영향을 조사하는 것이다. 여러 측정을 통해 식별된 스타 직원은 동료 직원에 비해 상대적으로 높은 성과를 보이고, 이러한 스타 직원들은 종종 회사의 모든 면에서 좋은 성과를 낸다고 여겨져 높은 성과에 대한 평가와 보상을 받는다. 미국을 선도하는 법인 화학 기업의 거래 데이터를 사용하여 (1) 생산 계획 시스템, 제품 수량, 고객의 구매력, (2) 재고가 저장된 위치 변수들을 사용하여 기업과 수요의 불확실성을 제어하였다. 최소 제곱법 (OLS) 회귀 분석을 통해 견고한 결과를 도출함과 동시에 위치 변화에 따른 재고 보유 기간의 변화도 관찰하였다. 이 연구는 스타 직원이 재고 보유 기간에 미치는 영향을 조절한다는 것을 보여주며 연구 결과는 재고 관리에 대한 인적 요소를 고려하여 문헌의 흐름을 확장하는 데 기여한다.  

The literature has highlighted that human intuition helps make reasonable decisions under uncertain business environment. In this study, we consider the human factors that may have significant influence on the companies’ operational performance. In particular, our intention is to classify employees dichotomously by performance itself and investigating their influences on inventory turnaround time. Star employees – selected using multiple measurements – have disproportionately high performance relative to their peers. Star employees are regarded as good performers in all aspects of company, they get evaluated and rewarded for high performance. Using empirical data from a leading incorporated chemical company in the United States, we investigate the extent to which star employee impacts inventory turnaround time. We controlled for uncertainties from the company and demand sides which are (1) production planning systems, product volume, and customer bargaining power; and (2) locations of inventory. We observed a shift in inventory turnaround time resulting from a change in locations and found more robust results by using ordinary least squares (OLS) regression. This work indicates how star employees impact inventory turnaround time. Our findings extend the stream of literature by considering human factors on inventory management.
