Abstract
Blockchain technology has emerged as a crucial foundational technology expected to influence businesses in various industries, including finance, manufacturing, healthcare, IT, and more. However, previous literature emphasized the technology itself and cryptocurrency-related indexes instead of the adoption and diffusion of the technology in practice. Given the potential of blockchain technology, this paper analyzes various factors influencing the adoption of blockchain technology. The importance of each factor is investigated by using the Analytical Hierarchy Process, which measures the weights of the factors influencing blockchain technology adoption. Furthermore, using the AHP Framework, this research creates the new index for Blockchain Technology Adoption. The empirical analyses demonstrate that market factors ranked the highest in importance weight, followed by institutional and technical factors. Furthermore, this research seeks to develop a new index, Blockchain Technology Adoption Index (BTAI), to analyze the potential of developed and developing countries to adopt blockchain technology.
