The paper studies the performance of the State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in the Republic of Tajikistan and the possibility of restructuration by the means of privatization. The study includes panel data for 14 SOEs and covers a time period of 5 years, 2017-2021. The results show that privatization tends to improve the overall performance of the SOEs in Tajikistan. The results suggest that there is a strong relationship between the performance of the SOEs and the tax system of the country and the working policy inside the enterprises themselves. That is, the advantages of the privatization of the SOEs can enhance the improvement of the working conditions for the employees and better financial stability due to the market conditions of the profit-seeking activities. However, an inefficient tax system of the country as the main risk may cause privatization to have an even more deteriorating effect on the performance of the SOEs in Tajikistan.
