템플 그랜딘(지은이)
저명한 동물학자이자 다른 방식으로 세상을 보는 자폐인이다. 한국에는 드라마 「이상한 변호사 우영우」의 주인공 우영우의 실제 모델로도 알려져 있다. 두 살 때 의사가 자폐를 진단하며, 평생을 보호 시설에서 살 것이라 말했지만, 어머니의 헌신적인 노력과 그만이 가진 특별한 인식 세계를 발전시키는 과정을 통해 성공적인 자기 계발과 사회생활을 하게 된다. 일리노이대학에서 동물학으로 박사 학위를 받았고, 현재는 콜로라도주립대학의 교수로 있다. 미국 가축 시설의 3분의 1이 그의 설계로 이루어졌으며, 그의 이야기는 영화 「템플 그랜딘」(2010)으로 만들어졌다. 『나는 그림으로 생각한다』 『어느 자폐인 이야기』 『나의 뇌는 특별하다』 『동물과의 대화』 등을 쓴 베스트셀러작가이기도 하다.
