Abstract

With the development of the digital economy worldwide, e-commerce has been one of the key growth drivers in economic advancement. The pandemic has also fueled the growth of the e-commerce field as individuals are unable to go outside freely. Especially, Southeast Asia has become an emerging market due to the growing Internet and mobile penetration rate and the number of young generations. Southeast Asia, Indonesia in particular, shows significant growth potential in this sector. This thesis analyzes several factors for activating Indonesia’s e-commerce industry. It aims to search for the optimal path to develop the e-commerce field in the near future. It utilized Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) analysis; thirty-six experts working for e-commerce companies, universities, and associations participated in the survey. The results from the AHP method show that customer satisfaction is the most important criterion in developing the e-commerce market in Indonesia, followed by technology, human resources, and the government accounted for the lowest proportion. Considering the sub-criteria, assurance within customer satisfaction came out as the most important criterion. This finding is expected to provide valuable insight for Indonesia trying to develop the digital economy, especially in the e-commerce industry.
