Abstract
This descriptive research aims to understand the impact of infection control job stress, nursing competency, positive psychological capital, and proactivity on the infection control fatigue experienced by emergency room nurses who have taken care of COVID-19 related patients (suspected or confirmed). Additionally, this study aims to provide baseline data for devising measures that will reduce the emergency room nurses’infection control fatigue. In total, 138 emergency room nurses were recruited from 3 K University Hospitals using convenience sampling. A survey was conducted to assess emergency nurses’ regular characteristics, infection control fatigue, infection control stress, nursing competency, positive psychological capital, and proactivity. Descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analyses were performed using SPSS WIN 25.0. The analysis results revealed that the higher the infection control job stress (β=0.771, p<.001) and the lower the positive psychological capital (β=-0.183, p<.021), the higher the COVID-19 infection control fatigue among the emergency room nurses with a significance of 68%. Therefore, it is essential to devise strategies that promote positive psychological capital to reduce infection control job stress and mitigate COVID-19 infection control fatigue of emergency room nurses; subsequently, an intervention program, which fully considers these factors, must be developed.
