저자소개

캐서린 겔버(지은이)

퀸스랜드 대학의 정치학 및 공공 정책 교수이다. 전공은 표현의 자유와 표현의 규제. 2014년에 루크 맥나마라와 함께 호주 정치학 협회가 주관하는 최고의 정치학 학술 논문에 주는 메이어 학술 논문상을 수상했다. 2011년 『문제는 말이다: 표현의 자유 바로잡기Speech Matters: Getting Free Speech Right』을 출간했으며 이 책은 호주 인권상 최종 수상 후보작(논픽션 부문)이었다. 같은 해 표현의 자유에 대한 기여로 펜 케닐리 상을 수상했으며, UN 지역 전문가 회의에 표현의 자유와 국제법의 인종 혐오 규정을 준수하고 있는지에 관한 호주 전문가 증인으로 초청되기도 했다. 2009년에 ‘표현의 자유와 한계’라는 주제로 애들레이드 시의 미첼 연설Mitchell Oration 을 발표했으며, 지금까지 『9·11 이후의 표현의 자유』를 포함한 세 권의 단행본을 출간했고 표현의 자유와 관련한 주요 책들의 공저자로 참여했다. 2017년 뉴욕 컬럼비아 대학교의 글로벌 표현의 자유 프로젝트 방문 학자였으며, 그해 12월 ‘표현의 자유와 불만’이라는 주제로 프린스턴 대학 인간 가치 센터 워크숍을 수잔 브리슨 교수와 공동으로 주최했다.
