레오 판 리르(지은이)

네덜란드 출신의 교육언어학자로 네덜란드, 영국, 미국 등 다양한 나라에서 교육 활동을 펼쳐 왔다. 미국의 미들베리 국제연구소의 통번역 및 언어교육대학원 교수로 27년간 재직하였다. 스프링어 출판사(Springer Publisher)의 교육언어학 시리즈 공동 편집인이었다. 언어 교육, 교육 문법, 제2언어 습득, 담론 분석, 이중 언어 교육 등을 연구했으며, 민족지학과 질적 담화분석을 교육 연구에 통합하기 위해 노력하였다. 또한 학생들의 언어 인식과 언어 학습 과정 간의 관계에 관심을 두고 연구하였다. 주요 저서로는 Interaction in the Language Curriculum: Awareness, Autonomy and Authenticity(2016), The ecology and semiotics of language learning(2004), Interaction in the language curriculum(1996), The classroom and the language learner(1996), Introducing language awareness(1995) 등이 있다.
