하워드 가드너(엮은이)

하버드 대학교의 심리학과 교수이자 인지과학 및 교육심리학의 세계적 석학. 수십 년 동안 인지심리학 분야에서 인간의 마음과 정신 능력, 학습 과정을 연구, 다중지능 이론을 창시했다. 그의 교육심리 이론은 여러 나라의 교육계에 막대한 영향을 미쳤으며, 그의 이론에 근거한 연구소와 단체가 우리나라를 비롯한 세계 여러 곳에 설립되어 운영되고 있다. 인간의 예술적이고 창조적인 능력의 발달과정을 분석하는 하버드 대학의 프로젝트 제로 연구소 운영위원장으로서, 줄곧 인간의 정신 능력에 관한 연구를 진행해온 그는 30년 가까이 연구소를 이끌면서 지능과 창조성, 리더십, 교육방법론, 두뇌 개발에 관한 연구 결과를 정리하여 지속적으로 발표했다. 존 듀이 이후 최고의 교육학 이론가로 손꼽히고 있는 그는 20여 종의 저서와 수백 편의 논문을 발표했다. 그 연구 성과를 인정받아 1981년에 맥아더 펠로우십을, 1990년에는 미 교육 분야 최초로 그라베마이어상을, 2000년에는 구겐하임 펠로우십을 수상했다. 2017년에는 멘사 재단 평생 공로상을 수상했으며, 좋은 일꾼과 시민 교육을 위해 노력하는 굿워크 프로젝트를 통해 공동선을 위한 지성의 실천에도 앞장서고 있다. 또한 그의 리더십 이론이 비즈니스 커뮤니티에서 각광받으며 ‘월스트리트저널이 선정한 경영사상의 구루’로 뽑히기도 했다. 저서로는 《지능이란 무엇인가》, 《인간은 어떻게 배우는가》, 《창조성은 어떻게 만들어지는가》, 《마음 변화의 과학》, 《미래를 준비하는 5가지 마음》, 《중국 교육, 미국 교육》, 《다중지능》 등이 있다.
