Author Introduction
앨런 E. 뷰캐넌(지은이)
미국의 철학자, 윤리학자, 생명윤리학자로, 듀크 대학교 철학과 명예 교수이다. 1975년 노스캐롤라이나 대학교 채플힐에서 박사학위를 받았고 애리조나 대학교, 위스콘신 대학교 매디슨캠퍼스, 킹스칼리지런던 등에서 가르쳤다. 맑스, 응용윤리(특히 생명의료 윤리), 사회정의, 인권, 국제사법, 국제법의 기초 등에 관해서 여러 권의 책을 썼는데, 한국어로 번역된 저서로 『맑스와 정의』(2019), 『우연에서 선택으로』(공저, 2017), 『인간보다 나은 인간』(2015) 등이 있고, 그밖의 저서로 The Heart of Human Rights (2013), Beyond Humanity? The Ethics of Biomedical Enhancement (2011), Human Rights, Legitimacy, and the Use of Force (2009) 등이 있다. 또한, “Taking International Legality Seriously: A Methodology for Human Rights”(2018), “Institutional legitimacy”(2018)를 비롯하여 정치철학, 국제법 철학, 사회 도덕 인식론, 생명윤리 등을 주제로 하는 수십 편의 논문이 있다. 1983년에는 철학자로서 대통령 산하 의료윤리위원회의 위원으로 참여하였고, 1996년부터 2000년까지 미국 국립인간유전체연구소 자문위원으로 활동하였다. 독립 생명윤리 연구 기관인 헤이스팅스 센터의 연구원이다.
