리처드 니스벳(지은이)
미시간대학교 심리학과 석좌교수이자 세계적인 베스트셀러 《생각의 지도》로 동서양의 차이를 과학적으로 입증한 사회심리학 분야의 세계적 석학이다. 《아웃라이어》를 쓴 말콤 글래드웰은 니스벳을 “내 인생에서 가장 영향력 있는 사상가”로 꼽으며 그에게 존경을 표했다. 미시간대학교 문화와 인지 프로그램(Culture and Cognition Program) 공동 소장, 집단 역동 연구센터(Research Center for Group Dynamics) 소장을 지냈으며 사회적 인식, 문화, 사회 계급 및 노령화를 주요 연구 주제로 삼아 사회심리학 연구에 크게 공헌했다. 그간의 연구 업적을 인정받아 미국의 양대 심리학회인 미국심리학협회와 미국심리학회의 학술상을 모두 수상했고, 2002년 사회심리학자로는 최초로 미국과학원 회원으로 선출되었다. 컬럼비아대학교에서 심리학 박사학위를 받았고 예일대학교에서 학생들을 가르쳤다. 저서로 《생각의 지도》, 《인텔리전스》, 《마인드 웨어》, 《인간의 추론(Human Inference)》(공저) 등이 있다.
