미국 University of North Carolina에서 특수교육전공 박사학위를 받은 후, 미국 유수의 대학의 교수로 일해 오다가 1998년부터 University of George, Department of Communication Sciences and Special Education의 교수로 재직 중이다. 학습장애, 차별화교수, 행동훈육 및 ADHD 등과 관련된 다수의 저서를 집필하였으며, 62편이 넘는 학술논문을 게재하는 등 왕성한 연구 활동을 진행하고 있다.
