로널드 드워킨(지은이)
미국 북동부 로드아일랜드 주의 프로비던스(Providence)에서 태어났다. 하버드 대학에서 철학을 전공한 후 옥스퍼드 대학 법학과와 하버드 대학의 로스쿨을 졸업했다. 뉴욕 소재 유명 로펌인 설리번＆크롬웰(Sullivan ＆ Cromwell)에서 근무하다가 예일 대학 로스쿨에서 강의하면서 학계로 진출했다. 1969년 스승이었던 하트(H, L. A. Hart) 교수의 후임으로 옥스퍼드 대학에서 교편을 잡았으며, 이후 런던 대학(UCL)과 뉴욕 대학(NYU)에서도 가르쳤다. 주요 저서로 대표작인 『법과 권리』(염수균 옮김, 한길사, 2010)를 비롯, 『법의 제국』(장영민 옮김, 아카넷, 2004), 『자유주의적 평등』(염수균 옮김, 한길사, 2005), 『생명의 지배영역』(박경신 외 옮김, 이화여자대학교 생명의료법연구소, 2008 / 로도스, 2014), 『민주주의는 가능한가』(홍한별 옮김, 문학과지성사, 2012), 『신이 사라진 세상: 인간과 종교의 한계와 가능성에 관한 철학적 질문들』(김성훈 옮김, 블루엘리펀트, 2014), 『정의론: 법과 사회 정의의 토대를 찾아서』(박경신 옮김, 민음사, 2015) 등이 있다.
