William F. Pinar(엮은이)

캐나다 벤쿠버 소재의 브리티시 컬럼비아 대학교(University of British Columbia) 사범대학의 교육과정학과 석좌교수이다. 교육학 분야 세계 100대 서적의 하나인 Curriculum and Instruction의 저자이며 교육과정학과 교육학 분야의 패러다임의 변화를 불러 온 역사적 인물로 평가된다. Currere의 새로운 개념화를 통하여 교육과정 연구에서 교육적 경험(educational experience), 정체성(identity), 주관성(subjectivity), 그리고 자서전적 탐구(autobiographical research)의 새로운 지평을 열었다. Ralph Tyler가 교육과정과 평가 영역을 이론화시켰던 미국 The Ohio State University 사범대학에서 학부를 졸업하고 뉴욕 근처의 고등학교 문학교사로 오랜 세월 재직하였다. 그 이후 다시 학교에 돌아와 교육과정 전공으로 석사와 박사를 마쳤다. 현상학에 대한 학술적 관심과 연구업적으로 박사학위를 받자마자 구미에서 학술적 명성을 얻었다. University of Rochester와 Louisiana State University 대학교의 교수로 재직하면서 무수한 논문과 저서작업, 그리고 학술대회와 학술지 창간을 통하여 교육과정학의 이론화의 구축에 결정적인 역할을 하였다. 그가 창립한 Journal of Curriculum Theorizing은 새로운 교육과정의 이론적 확산에 역사적으로 많은 기여를 하였고 세계교육과정학회(International Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies)의 창립 역시 그의 아이디어로서 시작되었다. 그의 대표작으로는 전 세계의 많은 대학교와 대학원의 교육과정분야의 연구서적으로 읽히고 있는 Curriculum and Instruction, Understanding Curriculum: An Introduction of Historical and Contemporary Discourses, International Handbook of Curriculum Research가 있다.
