셰리 버먼(지은이)
미국 컬럼비아 대학 소속 바나드(Barnard) 칼리지의 정치학과 교수로 재직 중이다. 유럽 현대사와 사회민주주의에 관해 독창적 시각과 날카로운 분석을 보여 준 그녀의 책 두 권, 즉 이 책과 The Social Democratic Moment(1997)는 미국의 유명 정치학자들로부터 큰 찬사를 받았다. 그 밖에도 Perspective on Politics, Comparative Politics, World Politics, Foreign Affairs, Dissent, World Policy Journal 등 권위 있는 학술지들에 활발히 기고하면서 미국 정치학계에서 두각을 나타내고 있다. 현재는 신생 민주주의 국가들에게 유럽의 정치적 경험이 어떤 교훈을 줄 수 있는지에 대한 연구 작업에 참여하고 있다.
