Author Introduction
조지 리처(엮은이)
미국 메릴랜드 대학교 석좌교수로, 이 대학교에서 올해의 석학교수로 선정되었고 명강의상을 수상하기도 했다. 2000년에는 미국사회학회에서 교육공로상을 수상하였고, 미 동부사회학회에서 2012-2013년 로빈 M. 윌리엄스 기념 올해의 교수로 선정되었으며, 호주의 라트로브 대학교에서 명예박사학위를 받았다. 초기에는 현대사회이론의 체계적 정리에 집중하다가, 이후에는 세계화에 대한 사회학적 연구에 전념하고 있다. 조지 리처의 가장 유명한 저서는 12개국 이상에서 번역 출간된 《맥도날드 그리고 맥도날드화The McDonaldization of Society》와 《맥도날드화 논문선집McDonaldization: The Reader》이며, 그 외에 《아메리칸 익스프레스 시대: 글로벌 신용카드 사회 비판Expressing America: A Critique of the Global Credit Card Society》 《탈주술화된 세계의 재주술화Enchanting a Disenchanted World》 《무의미의 세계화The Globalization of Nothing》, 《세계화의 이해Globalization: A Basic Text》 등의 저서도 관련된 주제를 다루고 있다. 《사회이론사전Encyclopedia of Social Theory》(전 2권) 《사회학사전Encyclopedia of Sociology》(전 11권) 《세계화사전Encyclopedia of Globalization》(전 5권)의 편집인이며, 〈소비자 문화 저널Journal of Consumer Culture〉의 창간편집인이다. 국내에는 《현대사회학이론Contemporary Sociological Theory》 《사회학이론Sociological Theory》 《현대 사회학 이론과 그 고전적 뿌리Contemporary Sociological Theory and Its Classical Roots: The Basics》 《소비사회학의 탐색Explorations in the Sociology of Consumption》 등이 번역 출간되었다.
