초록

The Bretton Woods institutions were created after the Second World War to boost up the devastated postwar economy by promoting more orderly international financial architecture. In recent years, however, theses institutions have been subjected to a varietyof criticisms and have been faced with severe problems in carrying out their objectives effectively. The relationship between the WTO, the World Bank and the IMP evolved to be quite different from that envisaged by the founding fathers of the Bretton Woods institutions. Also the relationship between the global financial institutions has been one of tension rather than cooperation. Therefore, the coherence among these institutions has become the most ambitious endeavor of all.
In consequence, this paper examines dissonance between the Bretton Woods Institutions by looking at the current problems facing the IMF and Wodd Bank, with special attention to how they are related to the original intentions. In addition, we will discuss how the dissonance might possibly shift to coherence.
The conclusion of this paper is that even though the current operations of the Bretton Woods Institutions are not yet adequate to carry out greater coherence, they are putting effort to take a firm stance toward more coherent global economic architecture by trying to develop a cooperative scheme among them.
