저자소개
존 B. 던컨(지은이)
1945년 미국 애리조나 야바파이 카운티 출생. 노던 애리조나대 재학 중인 1966년에 미군으로 한국에 와 2년 동안 비무장지대 부근에서 근무했으며 제대 후 고려대 사학과에 편입하여 졸업했다. 하와이대에서 석사학위, 워싱턴대에서 박사학위를 취득했다. 1989년 이래 UCLA 아시아언어학부 교수로 재직 중이며, 현재는 같은 대학의 한국학연구소 소장을 겸임하고 있다. 저서로 『Rethinking Confucianism: Past and Present in China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam』(공저, 2002),『Reform and Modernization in the Taehan Empire』(공저, 2006), 『Institutional Basis of Civil Governance in Chos?n Dynasty Korea』(공저, 2009) 외 다수의 논문이 있다.
